If you’re like myself and millions of other people around the world you are a fan of Starbucks. Well, at least one item on the Starbucks menu. I wouldn’t consider myself addicted like some people, but there is always one item on the menu drawing me in year round. Fall it’s the Pumpkin Spice latte or Frappuccino. Christmas season it’s the Cremé Brûlée latte or the Egg nog Frappuccino. Spring and summer it’s the Caramel Frappuccino. However, the one drink I love no matter the season is the Mango Drangonfruit Refresher. My sister got me hooked to it a little while back and it’s become one, of if not my absolutely favorite drink, on the Starbucks menu. It is for this reason I decided to create my own spin off of the Mango Dragonfruit Refresher. I used a few more tropical fruits and call it the Tropical Mango Refresher.
As I shared above, I’m definitely a Starbucks fan. What I’m not a fan of is the ungodly amount of money that could be spent at Starbucks weekly for these drinks. Those $5 and change totals really add up after a while. Especially within a month. This was the driving force to create a similar recipe on my own. It cost about $15 to buy the ingredients to make this drink myself and it’ll give me at least 5 copycat refreshers. That’s almost $20 in savings!
One of the reasons I love this drink is because it’s one of the more guilt free drinks on their menu. This is the drink I order with the least amount of sugar in it. It also doesn’t make me feel sluggish after drinking it because it’s not packed with sugar. I always ask for a little extra juice and light ice in my drink from Starbucks which makes it just right. Beyond the taste have you ever seen how beautiful this drink is in person? It’s almost too beautiful to drink! That deep magenta color from the red Dragonfruit is absolutely stunning. I mean what’s better than delicious food that’s equally as beautiful? I used white flesh Dragonfruit in my recipe since Mango is the star of the drink. It’s still beautiful too!
I had to play around with this recipe for a while before I finally got the taste I was looking for. It’s amazing how buying the wrong brand of the same type of product can throw the entire flavor off. I originally started off wanting to use red Dragonfruit like the drink at Starbucks. But you’d be amazed how hard it is to find red Dragonfruit living in the middle of nowhere Montana. I eventually ended up finding it at one store in town, but ultimately decided on using the white flesh Dragonfruit. More so when I made the decision to center my drink around the mango.
