The Art of Pausing When Necessary

January 24, 2021 Leave a Comment

art of pausing when necessary

If you’re an avid follower of my blog you probably noticed I was MIA last week. Between decompressing from a month long vacation, inauguration 2021, and getting back into the swing of virtual school it was an exhausting week. I normally push through tiredness but I’m learning the art of pausing when necessary. Last week was a much needed pause and I’m feeling refreshed for the new quarter and year.

Jordyn’s Virtual School Corner

August 19, 2020 Comments : 2

jordyn's virtual school corner

Tomorrow begins the start of the new school year for Jordyn. I have a first grader, and I’m still in disbelief about how fast times flies. They say it goes fast when you’re having fun, but it goes fast when you’re living everyday life. As most parents or guardians of school aged children know, this year is VERY different for one reason: Covid-19. Instead of doing the hybrid school model we opted to keep Jordyn home for 100% virtual schooling. While figuring out where she will sit to concentrate during school hours I decided to make the corner in our dining room Jordyn’s virtual school corner. To give her some sense of separation between school and home. She loves the way it looks! I hope she enjoys it throughout the school year too.Read More

Learning & Loving My Blackness

July 7, 2020 Leave a Comment

Being Black in America has always been a layered experience for me. Most of us go through multiple life stages of defining or questioning what Blackness looks like to us. My experience of Black in America was also coupled with being raised by a Caribbean family and Caribbean values. Learning and loving my Blackness is still a work in progress, but I’m so thankful for how far I have come.

“The American idea of racial progress is measured by how fast I become white.”

Spice Cabinet Organization

May 26, 2020 Comments : 2

I’ve been a busy bee during this quarantine by starting and/or finishing projects around the house. It’s actually been one of my favorite parts of being home because I don’t have the distractions or excuses to not finish them. One of my pride and joys of my kitchen is my spice cabinet. I take pride in knowing I can make almost any dish because I have the necessary spices to do so. Naturally, spice cabinet organization has been at the top of my to-do list for years now.Read More

Clicklist Kroger grocery pickup

*This is not an ad. All opinions are solely my own.*

Have you personally ventured into the wonderful world of grocery pick up yet? I used Kroger’s grocery pickup for the first time two weeks ago. I know, I know, how can I be so late to the grocery pick up party, right? I’m a late bloomer. Sue me. But man oh man am I happy I gave it a try! I’ve done two full scale grocery pickups so far and I have already learned that doing grocery pickup actually save me money. Convenient and cost effective. Talk about a win-win! With the spread of COVID-19 this last week grocery pickup has been a huge help in following directions to “social distance” ourselves. Read More

Meatballs from Scratch

September 18, 2019 Leave a Comment

meatballs from scratch

I shared a homemade spaghetti sauce recipe two weeks ago on the blog. Since then a few people have asked me if I ever make meatballs for my homemade sauce instead of breaking the meat up in the sauce. The answer is, yes! I don’t do it often for preference and time purposes in my family. However, there’s nothing like a homemade meatball and spaghetti sauce to hit the Italian comfort food spot. I’m not Italian and don’t claim to make authentic Italian meatballs, but I do make delicious meatballs from scratch that people will love. Read More

Chicken & Grilled Onion Quesadilla

August 22, 2019 Leave a Comment

When we begin a new week we at the very least can look forward to taco Tuesday. Who doesn’t love tacos or an entire day dedicated to said tacos? Exactly. But what if we can extend taco Tuesday leftovers into quesadilla Wednesday or Thursday? (Although any day is quesadilla day.) I know it doesn’t have the same ring to it, but I promise it’s equally as delicious. You will still get all the same delicious ingredients as your tacos but on a larger and cheesier scale. Sounds like a winning situation, right? Read More

Louisiana: The Move I Never Knew I Needed

August 18, 2019 Comment : 1

Being a military family means living in places we never consider to be “ideal” but you make work. For two reasons: one because the United States Air Force prioritizes the mission over feelings. And secondly because being upset doesn’t change your circumstances. It honestly makes it worse. For those who know me closely and personally, when I found out about our next base location being in Louisiana…you know I wasn’t thrilled LOL. But it’s funny how God and life come around to humble you in multiple ways whether you asked for it or not. I had no idea back then, but after only being here for 3 months, Louisiana is the move I never knew I needed. Here’s why:

Jordyn Turns 5!

June 22, 2019 Leave a Comment

My oldest baby girl turned FIVE years old earlier this week. Usually I post on the day of my girl’s birthdays, but this has been a pretty emotional one for me. I still remember finding out I was pregnant with Jordyn. I remember her little kicks in my belly, and how tiny she was when she entered this world. I don’t know how she is five years old and starting kindergarten this fall. Where has time gone? Why does time go by so quickly?Read More

Mint Peach Spritzer

April 23, 2019 Comments : 4

mint peach spritzer

We’re about a month into Spring 2019. Although Mother Nature hasn’t quite figured it out in this part of the country it doesn’t make it any less true. One of my favorite parts of the spring and summer months are the delicious drinks. All of the delicious and pretty fruit drinks make their reappearance. I wanted to create a refreshing drink that can be served alcoholic and non-alcoholic. This Mint Peach Spritzer is the perfect drink of a girls brunch or an evening get together. Read More
