Belizean Garnaches

September 21, 2021 Leave a Comment

Happy Independence Day, Belize! Today is the 40th anniversary of Belize’s independence from Britain. To celebrate such a special occasion I’m here to share one of my favorite Belizean dishes. Belizean Garnaches have been one of my favorite foods since I was a little girl. My love for them has only gotten stronger as I’ve gotten older. They’re easy to make and full of flavors you never knew needed to be put together.

Jamaican Rum Punch

July 20, 2021 Comments : 8

Jamaica’s Independence Day is less than 2 weeks away on August 6th. What better way to celebrate than with one of people’s favorite drinks to come out of Jamaica? This easy but strong Jamaican Rum Punch is made with your classic Wray & Nephew white rum. If you’ve ever had this rum before then you understand why I used the word “strong” LOL. I will also add that if your Jamaican Rum Punch recipe is using a rum that isn’t Wray & Nephew you should question the authenticity of the recipe.

Jamaican Fried Dumplings

If you follow me on Instagram, on Jamaican Independence Day I asked who would want a recipe for Jamaican Fried Dumplings. The consensus on Instagram and Facebook was a loud “Yes, please!” So the last few times I’ve made these dumplings I’ve been working on getting the measurements down on paper. And today I am finally here with a recipe to share with you all!

Learning & Loving My Blackness

July 7, 2020 Leave a Comment

Being Black in America has always been a layered experience for me. Most of us go through multiple life stages of defining or questioning what Blackness looks like to us. My experience of Black in America was also coupled with being raised by a Caribbean family and Caribbean values. Learning and loving my Blackness is still a work in progress, but I’m so thankful for how far I have come.

“The American idea of racial progress is measured by how fast I become white.”

Happy Birthday, Ash!

March 4, 2016 Leave a Comment

Today is not only #ThankfulThursday, but it is my cousin’s (who is more like my sister) 26th birthday! She’s clearly getting old and I’m clearly getting better LOL. I won’t bore everyone to death, but I wanted to take the time to wish her a very blessed and happy birthday. I’m so happy I get to call someone as crazy, and complicated (-_-) as you are, my cousin. I hope you recovered from your birthday celebrations LMAO. We love you so much and can’t wait to see you next month!

Happy birthday again Ash/Adeebo/Tunia! 🙂
