Last week was my daughter Jordyn’s fall break. The kids getting a week off for fall break here in Louisiana is easily one of my favorite parts of living here. We got no such thing growing up in suburban Illinois (boooo!) so we’re definitely taking advantage while we live here. This year we made a last minute decision to spend fall break 2021 in Dallas, TX. We were only there for 24 hours but it was 24 hours filled with fun.Read More
In 2019 we started a tradition of taking a road trip before the new school year starts. We went to Lafayette, LA in 2019 and explored the area while eating good food. We obviously weren’t able to plan one for 2020 due to pandemic reasons. This year our before school road trip 2021 landed us in the Frisco/Plano, TX area. It was the perfect family mini vacation spot. Especially for those of us with little ones still. Frisco, TX is about 3.5 hours away from us so it was the perfect distance for a mini road trip with a 3 year old and 7 year old.Read More
We spent our Jamieson summer vacation 2021 in Florida last month. My little family and I packed up the car and road tripped there for a much needed 3 week vacation. This was our first time stopping in Mobile, Alabama instead of Pensacola, Florida as our half way point. I’m not sure if everyone was taking family vacations the same weeks as us but hotel rooms were either sold out or super expensive. As they say, if there’s a will then there’s a way, and we found exactly what we needed when we needed it for our trip.Read More
Last week Jordyn and I flew out to Las Vegas from Tampa to spend my Great-Grandma’s birthday with her. Making it to see 93 years is truly a blessing. After the last year of craziness and uncertainty I’m thankful she’s happy and healthy. Grandma Lena’s 93rd birthday in Vegas was definitely one to remember. Tons of dancing, laughs, and genuine love to fill a stadium. And to think there were so many of us still missing from the celebration. I’m hoping next year Grandma Lena’s birthday celebration will include a majority if not all of the family. When you come from a very large family like ours getting everyone in one room can be a bit…tricky lol.Read More
Three years ago while still living in Montana, I came across a section in Essence magazine that caught my eye. Two pages of guide to Black historical sites all over the state of Louisiana. This was perfect timing considering we knew Shreveport, Louisiana would be our next base assignment. I immediately searched the list for Shreveport locations and to my surprise found two of them. One of those locations is the Southern University Museum of Art at Shreveport. I finally had the opportunity to visit this museum last week in celebration of Black history month.Read More
We spent the 2020 holiday season in Florida with my father-in-law and my husband’s extended family. It was a much needed family vacation in Florida after spending most of the year at home. We usually travel at least 3 times a year. But Florida was our one and only trip for 2020 thanks to you know what. We decided to road trip instead of flying to travel safely around less people. The good news about not traveling all year my husband had PLENTY of vacation days saved up. We were able to stay for about a month. A month of family time, good food, belly laughs, and relaxation.Read More
Happy first Tuesday of August! I decided to take an impromtu break from the blog for the month of July. I took some time to soak up the last few weeks of summer break for my daughter. As well as, to enjoy exploring this beautiful state of Louisiana with my family since we’re still new here. I also took some time to regroup and rethink my strategy for my brand and business going foward. I’m going to continue to share majority scrumptious recipes on here,Read More
Jordyn and I traveled to California last week. My husband was in California for a month and a half for work. Jordyn and I met him there towards the end of his work commitment. We flew there and road tripped back with him to Montana. Going to California is always a good time because we get to see so many of our loved ones when we’re there. My father in law even flew into town from Florida for a few days so we could spend some much-needed time with him. Although Jordyn and I ended up catching colds the last week of the trip, we had an amazing time, and can’t wait to see everyone again.Read More
The Special Olympics Montana Spring Games 2017 took place this past week on the University of Montana campus, in Missoula, MT. This is the first year I was able to go to the event with my team. Even though I have been coaching track and field for a few years I always had a scheduling conflict. This was also my first year coaching the adults (Purple Hornets) track and field team. We had such a great but exhausting time because we went non-stop for four days. Jordyn accompanied me for this trip too which quadrupled my level of tired. Ha! We took a charter bus to Missoula, MT for the games. It was Jordyn’s first time on a bus trip and she loved it. Between seeing the animals outside and movies playing on the bus, she loved every second.
We took our first family trip of 2017 to California, last month. This was the first time Kris and I have been back to California in over three years. Not only was this Jordyn’s first time in California, but this was her first time riding on an airplane. To say she loved it would be an understatement. She has been asking every day, since we landed, if we’re “going to get on the airplane.” Every time she asks my heart does a little happy dance, because we all know, not all kids are fans of traveling by plane.
