Happy first week of March! Spring is right around the corner and I can’t wait. It was a high of -12 this past Saturday here in Montana. Yes, you read that correctly. The HIGH was a negative temperature. Yikes! Warmer weather may seem far away still but it’ll be here before we know it. I love when the seasons change and with the seasonal change comes some eating changes. The lighter fresher air makes me what to eat lighter fresher foods. One of my favorite snack foods is my sweet chili snap peas recipe. It’s easy to whip up, it tastes delicious, and it’s a guilt free snack.
I first got the idea from a friend of mine a few years ago. She posted a bowl of sugar snap peas drizzled with sweet chili sauce and I love both of these foods. I decided to give it a try with my own flare of course. Although she was eating hers as a cold snack I decided I would try it slightly sautéed in a pan with some extra seasonings. You guys, it turned out delicious. And what’s better than creating a yummy recipe you won’t feel guilty about after eating the entire pan to yourself? Exactly.
If you’re huge on food textures one of my favorite parts of this snack is the crunch. The crunch coupled with the sweet and salty contrast is absolute perfection. I know some of you may be wondering how something like sugar snap peas could be something to rave over, but you haven’t had MY sweet chili snap peas. Also, I love veggies, particularly fresh tasting veggies. So this all makes my food loving heart extremely happy.
I will even let you in on another little secret. If you want to make this dish even healthier, omit the sweet chili sauce, and just use your seasonings. It will still be a delicious snack with less calories. Less calories is music to my ears because with us moving to Louisiana soon I’ll need some healthy snack options to balance out all that delicious Louisiana food! It’s all about balance and moderation, right?
To get started on the quick and easy recipe you’ll need:

Sweet Chili Snap Peas
Ingredients
- 8 oz. Sugar Snap Peas
- 1 tsp Olive Oil
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
- 1 tsp Honey
- 1.5 Tbsp Sweet Chili Sauce
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
Instructions
-
Make sure your sugar snap peas are rinsed and dried. (You don’t want the water on the peas to pop in your oil)
-
Heat a large frying pan over medium high heat. Add your olive oil to the pan and let it get hot.
-
Add your clean sugar snap peas to the hot olive oil. You should hear the peas sear in the oil.
-
Add your garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper to the pan. Stir for about a minute to evenly coat the peas in seasoning. (You can add as much seasoning as you want to the peas)
-
Add your honey and sweet chili sauce to the pan. Stir continuously for 1-2 minutes to prevent burning and clumping.
-
Place your sweet chili snap peas in a small bowl. Allow them to cool for a few minutes before eating and enjoy!
