Jordyn’s Virtual School Corner

August 19, 2020 Comments : 2

jordyn's virtual school corner

Tomorrow begins the start of the new school year for Jordyn. I have a first grader, and I’m still in disbelief about how fast times flies. They say it goes fast when you’re having fun, but it goes fast when you’re living everyday life. As most parents or guardians of school aged children know, this year is VERY different for one reason: Covid-19. Instead of doing the hybrid school model we opted to keep Jordyn home for 100% virtual schooling. While figuring out where she will sit to concentrate during school hours I decided to make the corner in our dining room Jordyn’s virtual school corner. To give her some sense of separation between school and home. She loves the way it looks! I hope she enjoys it throughout the school year too.

These are the before and after pictures of Jordyn’s virtual school corner. I bought all of the materials, except for the table, from Target. Everything cost me less than $30. The Target $1 bins are the hotspot! The most expensive item was the storage drawers and that was only $10. (If you’re interested in the table it was about $30 from Ikea.)

The decision to virtual school was an easy one for our household. I’m already a stay at home parent which means I have the availability to keep her home and virtual school her until this virus is under control. However, there are thousands of parents who don’t have the same option. Both parents HAVE to go to work to maintain the household expenses. Me keeping my child home is my own personal way of helping the teachers and other students stay as healthy as possible.

Although we never saw virtual schooling coming a million miles away during Jordyn’s school years, I’m thankful for the opportunity to do so. One day she’ll be back in the classroom hanging out with friends and hugging her teacher. Until then, I’ll enjoy those hugs myself and pray this corner is the start to a smooth and enriching school year.

It looks wonderful, is there anything I can contribute, to make her school year fun?
