We’re at the end of January and man has it been a crazy start to the year. I mean crazy in a good way because January 2022 goals & life events have started the year strong. From spending time with friends, crushing book goals, and volunteer work, it’s been fulfilling. I like to believe the way we start the year is a good sign for how the year will go. Here’s a quick catch up session on what’s happening in every day life as well as what’s to come!

I’m currently reading book number four for January. That’s a huge deal because I read the average of 1.75 books per month last year. Now that I’m being more intentional of doing what makes me happy one of the end results is my love of reading books!
Feeding the Soul – Tabitha Brown
In Every Mirror She’s Black – Lolá Ákínmádé Åkerström (not pictured)
The Silent Patient – Alex Michaelides
The Bluest Eye – Toni Morrison *currently reading*

Military Life:
As part of the African American Heritage Committee here on base we volunteered on MLK Day. My friend Morgan was the organizer, and she put together a donation drive where we took the items to create donation bags for the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission here in town. It was truly a team effort and the definition of honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a day ON not OFF for service to the community.

P.S.- I have some great content coming your way next month for Black History Month!
We’ve gotten to spend a lot of time with our chosen military family. From 12 hour brunches, feast style dinners, and tons of laughter, the joy has been limitless. The best part of finding your chosen military family is knowing you got to specially hand pick and attach your soul to the people who make you feel at home no matter where you are at the moment. The hardest part about finding your chosen family is knowing one day we will all be going our separate ways. For our little crew this summer is when everyone will start to rotate away from Barksdale. It’s so bittersweet because we truly savor the moments we spend together and make them count. But knowing it has an expiration date never gets easier. For now we will continue to celebrate and spread joy because life is meant to happen in stages.

2022 Goals:
I will round up this post with sharing my goals for 2022 because this is called “January 2022 goals & life” for a reason. I usually sit down and think out a detailed organized list of my goals for the year and share them here. This year I’m deciding to keep the goals short and sweet with the same foundational goals in mind: happiness and improvement. I want to be happier all around. Happiness for me looks like:

- family time
- reading books
- nurturing my Black Women of Barksdale community
- feeling and looking healthier
- doubling my profits of my blog
- Staring at the trees and stars in the sky more often, etc.
We can make all the lists we want but if we don’t feel genuine happiness and improvement then what is it all for? What is life without happiness? Without the little everyday things we so easily take for granted.
