Juneteenth is right around the corner and most of us are finalizing the celebration details. The most important being, what are we eating and who’s cooking what dish? All categories are covered here to cover you next weekend!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Juneteenth it is the celebration of the day enslaved Black people were emancipated in Texas. It takes place on June 19th which is the anniversary day of the announcement on June 19th, 1865. This important day is also called Freedom Day or Jubilee Day. As an American born Black woman, Juneteenth for Black people is what July 4th is to the entire country. It is a day filled with delicious food, quality time with loved ones, and memories to last a lifetime. These 6 Recipes to Celebrate Juneteenth are a sure way to get the delicious food part started!
These beautiful Ombré Sunrise Mimosas are the perfect way to start your Juneteenth celebration day. Sip on one while you prepare food, or share relax with your guests before the festivities begin. But don’t let the name mimosa make you think this is only for day time. It serves as a nice drink anytime of day.
There is just something about fresh fruit in a cocktail that makes it special. These Pineapple Watermelon Tequila Cocktails are one way to get the party started. The sweetness from both fruits added to the smooth tequila is a match made in heaven. Guaranteed to be a summer hit!
One of my favorite parts of living in the south is how much they appreciate a good seafood boil down here. My favorite seafood is crab by a landslide. So I created my own Crab Boil & Garlic Butter Sauce recipe. It’s one of my family’s favorite dishes to eat on special occasions. Just crack the crab and crack up laughing in between!
Brown Sugar Baked Chicken Wings are a love language for me. I promise you once you try the marinade on this chicken you won’t ever marinade chicken in a different mixture again. Impress your Juneteenth guests with this tender flavorful chicken recipe.
Juneteenth Side Dish & Dessert:
Baked Mac & Cheese is a staple at any Black home gathering. And not everyone is allowed to make it either. If you aren’t specifically assigned to make the Mac and cheese then it is not wanted. I wish I was joking but I’m not. Give this recipe a try if you’re a newbie wanting to experiment with an easy and delicious baked Mac and cheese recipe.
I’m not exaggerating when I say this is one of the desserts my family LOVES me to make for holidays. This Skillet Peach Cobbler has a few moving parts in putting it together, but it’s not complicated if you pay close attention to the instructions. This is another heavy hitter dessert in Black households so practice before bringing to the Juneteenth family function.
